Love in a Long Distance Relationship – What Does it Feel Like?
In today's world, with people traveling across the globe for work or studies or other reasons, there may be times when you have to be apart from your loved one.
When thousands of miles separate you and your partner, you're constantly reminded of their absence (especially on special occassions with Valentines Day being the worst!) and yearn for their comforting hug when you're feeling low.
But it's not all bad. Statistics show that long distance couples (with a little more planning and effort) work in par of those couples who are geographically close. And if you're in a long distance relationship, you would know the inexplicable feeling when you finally get to meet them.
Being in a long distance relationship is tricky, but it helps you learn a lot about yourself and your relationship, especially the lessons that you’ve been avoiding.
Communication becomes sacred, and you get better at it.
You're forced to really “talk” on the phone with your partner, which helps you get to know them in a completely different way and builds a deeper sense of emotional intimacy.
When you have limited time together over the phone or an unstable Skype chat, you focus on sharing meaningful things than vent about the petty stuff.
If one person in the relationship is unhappy with something, you learn to deal with it immediately rather than wasting time over passive-aggressive comments or obscure suggestions of anger.
Your partner won’t always be around when you are having a bad day and desperately need them. You will feel lonely on days when you fail and need their presence or touch more than any sweet words on Skype. In the process, you learn to cope with a lot of things on your own, and you grow stronger and more mature in the process.
Tough times don’t last, tough couples do!
Relationships require effort from both parties, and if you can overcome the long-distance hurdle, you’ll be surprised by how much you both can accomplish as a team.
